Family Room Home Theater Design On A Budget

A home cinema room shouldn’t be set up as you normally would set up a typical family room- it has specific requirements if you plan on getting the ultimate experience from every digitally enhanced special effect you watch and hear. There are a few simple things you can do right now to make the most of the audio and video of your movies you are watching. The more of these that you can implement…the greater the quality of the sound and picture of your existing system.
Number one: Imitate the way a standard movie theater is set up and arranged.
If you recall, all theatre seats point toward the projector screen. There is no caddy corner or angled seats in a movie theater, are there? Can you rearrange your couches and love seats to get a more direct view of the screen?
Number two: Do not put your speakers on the floor! The floor and carpeting will muffle the sound from your speakers. You would be surprised how many people still have their speakers on the floors! Use speaker brackets or put them on a bookshelf. Speakers should optimally be placed about a few feet above your head. Just implementing this one suggestion will make a huge difference.
Number Three: Try to keep the front left and right channels proportionally arranged on either side of your TV screen. Center channel speakers should be installed either above or below your plasma, LCD or Projection screen. Rear channel speakers should always be installed behind your couches whether on the walls or in the ceiling. Carpeting will add to the quality of your sound as well.
Number 4: Lighting. It makes sense the more lighting that is visible…the more your video picture quality will be affected. So what can you do? You have to control the interior and the exterior lighting of the room. So be sure to shut of all interior lights during your movie watching. Some universal remotes can actually even shut the lights off for you when the movie is turned on. Can you imagine that! Regarding exterior sunlight—use room darkening shades or heavy curtains that can be used to be closed over the windows during movie watching time. The darker the room the better. Some families even keep a flashlight handy for bathroom breaks!
You don’t have to spend a dime to improve the quality of your existing home theater setup.
Why not try some of these home theater room setup suggestions the next time your family sits down to watch a movie? I believe you will notice a dramatic difference in your home theater experience.
