Thanks for dropping me a line.

You have the greatest skill already if you can help people to get what they want.

That skill is the skill of showing personal interest in others.

I always try to remember that no one likes to be "sold"...but everyone loves to "Buy".

The next most important skill is the ability to market yourself. You can have the best product or service in the world--

But if no on knows about it...its useless.

If you can master Marketing-- the world is yours.

If you are serious about this, then approach a local Home theater company and ask them if they would pay you a commisssion for every job you bring to them.

No one will turn down free business.

Here is what you can do next...

Find out what exactly the home owner is hoping to do.

Then the owner of the company and the techs can help you design a system to fit what the homeowner is looking for.

Visit your installations and ask plenty of questions.

The details will come to you after a while.

I wish you the best.

Frank,

I came across your blog by first adding modules to my Yahoo.com home page and clicking through by titles listed. I find this blog enlightening and encouraging.I have been a paid mouthpiece/salesman for the printing industry for 25 years. I can explain all about double web pre press, direct to plate, adjust on the fly color control, blah, blah , blah but nobody really cares except the graphic artist who never get to make a buying decision.

I can and do relate to most of the buyers who look for convenience, impact and affordability. I think I can do that with a builder and the home owner without knowing it all. I plan on hiring some good people with expertise to help me in the tactical business of planning, proposing and installing a home automation system that can be affordable and scalable.

Do you have any advice regarding my desire to join an industry with what I see as a lot of upside in the near and long term? How did you get started?
