What Is The Truth About HDMI Cables?

Are you ready to hear the truth?
Because it may not be what you are expecting....
In fact, it may not be what you want to hear at all. But put up with me for a second.

If you listen to the boys at Circuit City, Best Buys and even your Dish and Direct Tv Installers you would think  HDMI cables are the best thing since sliced bread.

The holy graille of High Def cables for digital quality audio.and high definition video performance.

And if you knew the margins on HDMI cables....you can see why they are so excited about pushing them.

4 Things You Need To Know About HDMI Cables Before You Spend Your Hard Earned Money On Them.

Unless you have a 1080P TV HDMI cables are not going to help you see a better picture then simply getting component level  plasma feeds.
  1. HDMI Cables are highly susceptable to damage on the pre-wire stage of your home theater project. Unlike component cable feeds that we usually we run....if HDMI cables get damaged...the entire cable is useless and must be re[placed. This presents a huge problem once the room is completed with drywall and paint.
  2. HDMI Cables may not  be compatable with your existing equipment, Television or Projector. There have been more than a few clients that insisted on HDMI cables only to find they couldn't attatch to the equipment they bought on their own or had owned previously.
  3. HDMI Cables are already being reengineered. Did you know that HDMI 2.0 cables are being designed as we speak. HDMI 3.0 are on the design board for the next year or so. In other words todays HDMI cables may not work with the equipment of tomorrow. What will you do when you buy new equipment that may not have the "old fashioned" HDMI cable connection available?
  4. While HDMI cables provide a simple connection solution for the home owner... the connection is a very fragile one that may be jeapordized by pushing the wires in the back of the TV and your cabinet.
  5. Most people are suprised to see that they can not see the difference between HDMI cable and HD Component level cables With RGB connections. That is why we prefer to run HD Component level cables. They offer all the benefits of the High Definition (HD) video signal combined with the digital quality audio that an HDMI cable provides...without the negative side issues HDMI cables offer as discussed.
Now please, don't get me wrong.
If you have your heart set on HDMI...I will be happy to provide and install them.

I just wanted you to know the facts so you can make an educated decision.  Some folks see the value of saving the money here and using it to invest in better surround sound speaker system.

"Frank you were very helpful explaining the alternatives relative to a large screen TV and associated sound systems.  As you know your company installed my TV and we are very happy with the results.  At a later point when we have bookcases built in our den, we will consider an upgraded sound system.

Thanks for your help."
